HOW TO VISIT UPTOWN MINNEAPOLIS IN ONE DAY.
I have been visiting Minneapolis for the past three years, and let’s just say, it is not a top travel destination for me. One might even say I'm considering moving there, but that’s a lie. What brings me to the chilly state called Minnesota is my dearest brother. This year, I was lucky enough to visit him during the summer and it completely changed my perspective. Uptown Minneapolis has officially made my top 75 cities to visit in the world. Here are four things you should do if you ever find yourself in Uptown, Minneapolis.
MURALS.
If you are into any form of street art, Uptown Minneapolis is definitely it. If you are not into art, well this is STILL for you. I checked out some murals just one to two minutes from each other and had a blast. Every painting is certainly inspired by different artists, but it is up to you to interpret it. Check out these murals to figure out which one speaks to you the most.
2. ATTEND A FESTIVAL.
The Walker Art Center is worth visiting, and it will cost you $15 to get in. If you are into street art, murals are for you. If you are into contemporary art, the Walker Art Center is for you. However, if you are into none of those, the Walker Art Center usually host festivals during the summer months. Check online to see what the current exhibits are. The Walker is also home to the sculpture park with a man made lake. That happens to be free.99. There you can find the blue giant chicken sculpture, a strange sphere ball and many others artsy things.
3. COFFEE SHOPS.
If you are visiting during the summer, I reckon you will be hot at some point. If you love coffee, tea, water or all three, downtown Minneapolis is the location. My favorite spot, Peace Coffee is picturesque and an absolute mood. Very spacious, colorful and cheery. The Ice Macchiato was delicious and the sparkling blackberry tea, second best. Talk about an air-conditioned instagrammable spot! Definitely hang out there while you catch your breath, you won’t regret it.
4. ROOFTOP VIEWS.
Nothing tops discovering a city from a downtown rooftop bar. I stumbled upon Libertine (now closed), while looking for Vietnamese Pho, and I was glad. There are three other rooftop restaurants in the near vicinity, but Libertine was the tallest. You could see all the pool parties happening across the street, pedestrians trekking, couples enjoy their meals and everything in-between. The prices were very affordable. There are other great rooftop bars right around, so pick one and check it out!
