After visiting Chichén Itzá in 2019 and the Pyramids of Giza in 2021, I’ve been on a quest to travel to all the New Wonders of the World and make memories of a lifetime. Petra in Jordan, one of the Seven Wonders, was next on my travel list. 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama shared; “Exploring The Red Rose City was like stepping into a living history book. The architecture and sheer scale of the site are breathtaking. This is pretty spectacular, It's amazing!” That was all the motivation I needed—As a matter of fact, Jordan, as a kingdom was next on my list! From the ancient wonders of Petra to the peaceful waters of the Dead Sea, Jordan offers a perfect balance of history, culture, and natural beauty.

I spent almost two weeks in Jordan and I fell in love—quite literally. This was my second time back in the Middle East, and I was blown away with the Jordanian culture and its people. The sites were beautiful but the Bedouin people were even more welcoming. I am looking forward to returning as a solo traveler, so I curated this 9-day itinerary designed with solo travelers in mind. Both with convenience and security are at the forefront! Safety is always my number one priority and this is how you navigate the best of Jordan over nine days.

 9-Day Itinerary in Jordan

Day 1: Welcome to Amman, Jordan

Your 9-day itinerary in Jordan journey begins in Jordan's bustling capital, Amman. After landing at Queen Alia International Airport on a Royal Jordanian flight, head to a hotel or hostel in a central neighborhood like Jabal Amman or Weildeh. Both areas are known for their charm and safety.  I recommend staying at the W Amman. Ease into your trip with an evening stroll along Rainbow Street, a lively spot filled with cafes, restaurants, and shops.

Grab dinner at a local favorite like Fakhreldin Restaurant to sample authentic Jordanian cuisine.

For transportation, stick to Uber or Careem, which are reliable and safe.

Day 2: ExplorE Amman, Jordan

Start your day two itinerary in Jordan with the Amman City Tour, then visit to the Citadel, a hilltop site offering stunning views and fascinating history. From there, head to the Roman Theater, located in downtown Amman. Take a walk through the vibrant markets of Al-Balad, where you'll find everything from spices to handmade goods. Make time for a quiet escape at Darat Al Funun, an arts center with beautiful gardens. End your day with a hearty lunch at Jasmine House, my personal favorite that's perfect for solo travelers. Day 3: Day Trip to Jerash and Ajloun, Jordan

On day three in Jordan, venture out of Amman to explore the ancient city of Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman archaeological sites in the world. Wander through its grand colonnaded streets and marvel at its temples and theaters. Next, head to Ajloun Castle, a historic fortress nestled in lush greenery. Both sites are easily accessible via a day tour or private taxi. Joining a group tour is a great option for added convenience and safety when traveling solo.

Day 4: Madaba, Mount Nebo & the Dead Sea 

On day four of your Jordan itinerary, head south to Madaba, famous for its Byzantine mosaics. Stop by St. George's Church to see the Mosaic Map, a 6th-century depiction of the Holy Land. From there, visit Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land.

In the afternoon, indulge in a Dead Sea experience. Opt for a day pass at the Dead Sea Marriott Resort for secure access to private beaches, mud baths, and relaxation. If you choose to swim, stay close to the shore as the Dead Sea's dense waters can be tricky. I would also recommend spending one night at the Dead Sea—this was one of my favorite stays in Jordan.

Grab dinner at Oak Tree Kitchen, one of the restaurants at the Dead Sea Marriott.

Day 5: Journey to Petra via the King's Highway

Take the scenic King's Highway route to Petra Jordan, with stops along the way to break up the journey. Snap photos at Wadi Mujib, Jordan's dramatic canyon, and explore Karak Castle, a Crusader fortress steeped in history.

Arrive in Petra in the evening and check into Movenpick Resort Petra near the entrance for easy access the next day.

Day 6: Discover the Wonder of Petra

On day six of your Jordan Itinerary, get up early to beat the crowds and heat at Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Walk through the Petra Siq, a narrow canyon that leads to the breathtaking Treasury. Spend your afternoon hiking to the Monastery (Ad-Deir), which offers stunning views and fewer tourists. Don't miss the Royal Tombs, carved into the cliffs.

• For an extra treat, consider the Petra by Night experience, where the site is illuminated by thousands of candles (available on select nights).

• The entrance fee for Petra by Night is 17 JD, the one-day pass is 50 JD and the two-day pass is 55 JD. Check out the entrance fees here.

• Stick to well-traveled paths and return to the Movenpick Resort Petra before dark to ensure your safety.

Day 7: Wadi Rum Desert Adventure

Travel to Wadi Rum, a desert landscape straight out of a movie. Did you know that some of the scenes the from Dunes 2 were shot in the Wadi Rum Desert? Insane! Don’t miss out on a Jeep tour with Yanal Alzawaidah. They will take you to incredible spots like Lawrence's Spring, sand dunes, and natural rock bridges. There’s nothing like a picnic in the desert, so check out Rum Mirage Events.

Spend the night in a Bedouin camp at Wadi UFO Luxotel under the stars. Wadi UFO Luxotel offers private tents, making them a great option for solo travelers. This was such a safe and comfortable experience in Wadi Rum. 

Day 8: Relax in Aqaba

After the Wadi Rum Desert, head to Aqaba, Jordan on the Red Sea coast for some well-deserved relaxation. Enjoy snorkeling while on a boat cruise, or check into and unwind at a private beach club at Kempinski Aqaba.

If you prefer shopping, Aqaba's markets are full of unique finds, from handmade jewelry to spices. Grab dinner at Blue Mediterranean, one of the restaurants at Kempinski Aqaba.

Day 9: Farewell, Jordan

Take an early private transfer back to Amman. Spend your last morning in Amman picking up souvenirs or relaxing at a cafe. If your flight is later in the day, visit Souk Jara (if in season) for handmade goods and local treats. When it's time to leave, head to the airport with plenty of time to spare.

Solo Travel Safety Tips for Jordan

1.  Transportation: Use ride apps like Uber or Careem in cities, and book JETT buses for intercity travel. I recommend that you schedule transportation with a tour guide for your 9-day itinerary in Jordan ahead of time. This a major safety key as a solo traveler. 2. Accommodation: Stay in well-reviewed hotels or hostels with female-only dorm options if needed.

3.  Clothing: Dress modestly, especially outside urban areas, to respect local customs.

4.  Communication: Get a SIM card (HolaFly) for reliable internet and navigation.

5.  Tours: Opt for group tours to popular destinations for added security and companionship.
